Common Signs of Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency is one of the main types of vitamin deficiencies present on the population. It affects a great numbers of newborn children and pregnant women around the World and if left untreated, it can develop into more serious conditions such as rickets and osteomalacia, since this is a vitamin directly related to the strength of or bones.

Knowing the vitamin deficiency symptoms or signs of vitamin d deficiency is very important in order to avoid keep bone problems from affecting seriously our lives or the life of our children. Here is a list of the sign you should look for if you have vitamin D deficiency.

Bone pain, this pain is mostly present on the back, hips or legs.

Muscular pain, or weakness. When the deficiency gets more serious, you will have trouble standing up or climbing up the stairs. On some person the way they walk is seriously affected and a sign of vitamin D deficiency.

In children, the sign of lack of vitamin D can translate into soft skull or leg bones. Watch out for legs that look curved or bowed since this is a major indicator of a deficiency. Teeth may also be affected in children, growing up late and weak.

Cramps. These are muscle spasms that come with seizures and trouble breathing normally. This sign of vitamin D is more present in cases of severe deficiency.
