Signs of Vitamin D Deficiency

In this site you will learn all about the signs of vitamin D deficiency. This vitamin is essential in the development of muscle and bones, and it is obtained mainly though the rays of the sun that helps its processing.

The main signs of vitamin D deficiency are diseases of the bones that cause deformity and weakness. In children it is called rickets; infants with this deficiency will develop weak, curved legs. This was a more common disease during the last century but now it is almost inexistent and its present mainly in countries where people don’t have enough sun exposure.

On adults, the signs of vitamin D deficiency present as osteomalacia, and it affects pregnant and nursing women. Women who are in this phase have more nutritional needs because of the changes in the balance of hormones and also because they need to share with the child the ingest of food and vitamins.

On elderly people, the signs of vitamin D deficiency are represented as osteoporosis. Again, hormonal changes are the cause of this deficiency (menopause), there are low calcium levels in the body and weak bone problems appear. When you are old and you have vitamin D problems, doctors recommend taking supplements to reach the normal levels of vitamin D in the body
